Sports and Recreation
Project Coordinator: Bob Nameng
This project attacks the lack of recreational facilities in Kliptown and development of potential professional talent in soccer, basketball and netball. In light of the upcoming FIFA World Cup in 2010, SKY opts to take a positive path by actively working with players in part to contribute to the national team, Bafana-Bafana. To this end, SKY has formed five soccer divisions: 15-under, 16-17, 18-19, 20-21, and 22-23.
Purpose: To develop self-confidence in, positive activities, potential careers and role models for Kliptown youth through the participation in sports and other recreational endeavors.
Objectives:
- To provide our youth with fun, positive alternatives to crime, drug abuse, early teenage sexual activity, and a feeling of hopelessness
- To develop a strong work ethic and structure in young people through rigorous training and participation in team sports
- To promote national pride through becoming a contributor to national teams
Outcomes:
- To develop strong male and female soccer, basketball and netball teams
- To supply players to Bafana-Bafana for the 2010 World Cup
- To provide international professional soccer and basketball teams with players from Kliptown
- To chip away at poverty, ignorance and illiteracy
